The name
The Brackley Viaduct was a Victorian railway structure that once stood proud over the town, twenty arches carrying the Great Central Railway across the Ouse Valley. It was demolished in 1965 after the Beeching cuts closed the line, leaving nothing behind but the memory of those twenty spans.
We named the bar after it because we liked the idea of something being gone but not forgotten. A place where people used to gather, pass through, and connect, now replaced by somewhere else people gather, pass through, and connect. Just with better beer.
Our story
At 20 Arches, we believe that great beer is best enjoyed in great company. Nestled in the heart of Brackley, our craft beer bar and beer shop isn't just a place to grab a drink, it's a hub for the community. An intimate space where conversation flows as easily as the beer, and where strangers become friends over a shared love of craft brewing.
Founded by Tom and built on a simple obsession with great beer, 20 Arches started with the belief that Brackley deserved somewhere proper. Somewhere that takes the beer seriously without taking itself too seriously. A place with real character, and maybe a skeleton or two.
Our eight rotating taps keep things fresh. The rule is simple: once a keg runs dry, something new takes its place. No two visits are the same, and that's the point. Alongside the taps we carry over 150 different beers and ciders in cans and bottles, carefully sourced from breweries across the UK, Europe and the US.
We're more than a bar. We're a place where people come together. Whether you're here to try something you've never heard of, meet someone who knows their hops from their malts, or just enjoy the atmosphere, every visit should feel personal. Come for the beer. Stay for the conversation.
How we got here
20 Arches opens on Brackley High Street with 4 taps, a beer shop, and a simple idea: Brackley deserves somewhere proper to drink craft beer.
We expand into the unit next door, more seating, a bigger bar, and upgrades throughout. Thanks to community funding and incredible support from regulars, we go from 4 taps to 8.
The nano brewery opens, producing Brackley's first beers brewed in the town centre for nearly 70 years. We also introduced our Skeech table and built a free interactive arcade for customers to enjoy.
Brackley's brewing heritage
Brackley was once a brewing town. For much of the 19th and early 20th century, the town was home to two local breweries, Hopcroft & Norris and Blencowes Brewery, producing beer for the community on its doorstep. When they closed, that tradition was lost for nearly 70 years.
Planned throughout 2025 and completed in 2026, the 20 Arches nano brewery marks the return of brewing to Brackley town centre for the first time in almost seven decades. Every pint we brew here is a nod to the brewers who came before us, and a reason to celebrate what Brackley has always been good at.
